Reducing school dropout among Roma girls with an intersectional approach
From January 2023, E-Romnja runs the Reducing school dropout among Roma girls with an intersectional approach project, implemented with the financial support of Canton of Basel-Stadt, Switzerland.
The aim of the project is to address the issue of school dropout in the case of Roma girls, as one of the most vulnerable and neglected groups in the educational system. We aim to build a support system around these Roma girls to protect them from various forms of abuse, increase visibility, understand their problems within the system and enable them to achieve their own goals.
The project activities will be carried out on two levels:
→ as a grassroots initiative built on the needs identified by Roma girls/women in our groups (often limited to education, or in abusive situations due to gender roles or so-called "cultural" arguments);
→ as an action with an institutional approach that aims to build an intervention mechanism in a holistic way that includes family, community, authorities and establishes ways of intervention for emergency situations.
